Music Monday: TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB

What You Know by Two Door Cinema Club

I apparently am obsessed with random dancers in music videos as of late.  I love the song, but lets be honest - the dancers made me very very happy.  I dig their style.

Two Door Cinema Club is from Northern Ireland (maybe explaining the hideous earring that hasn't been popular in the US since 2002).  They formed in 2007 and chose their name after one of the members mispronounced the name of the local movie theater, Tudor Cinema.

While their music has yet to assail the home television set, I think you'll soon hear them in ads, TV shows and movie soundtracks.  Just wait and see!

Oh My Oscars

Loved

Mila looks radiant.  The pale lilac reminds me of my favorite nail polish, and the lace detailing adds enough texture to make the dress look modern and edgy despite the feminine color. Cate took the most risk this year and I think it paid off.  I didn't immediately love this dress, but then I saw the back.  Plus, we all know I'm a sucker for yellow.

Thank heavens above, sleeves are in! Both Michelle and Amy look stunning.  The color of Michelle's dress is timeless and beautiful.  Amy's is bold and I love how she wore her necklace over her dress. Perfectly styled.

The True Grit star looks divine.  Sweet, simple, appropriate and quite smashing if you ask me. I've always had a soft spot for tea length dresses.

Loathed

Jennifer Lawrence's neckline and color is reminiscent of Pamela Anderson circa 1991 Baywatch.  And Penelope looks like she is headed to a high school prom in 1999.  To bad her date forgot to buy her a corsage. Did no one inform them the 90's had ended?

Reese looks like the a 1960's Barbie, which really isn't a bad thing.  I just think she's boring.  As much as I love Gwenyth, this is not her best performance. The color isn't flattering, the cut isn't  special and the fabric looks cheap.

Ew. There is nothing, literally NOTHING good about this dress. Someone should have told her to cover up her ta-tas.

Those are my thoughts, what are yours?

About time it was Friday

I can't remember the last time I was this excited for a weekend.  I need a break from life and tomorrow morning I plan to not plan.  Being low key will have to wait until tomorrow though, because tonight I have a super swanky event at the Biltmore.  Apparently, it will be the who's who of Scottsdale/Phoenix. Then Saturday night, I have an epic mustache party that I can't wait for.  More crazy shenanigans to share with you!

A little link love:

Let's draw the world the way we would like.

How about creative kitchenware with a Buddha and a fox?

Must try this recipe for Almond Yogurt Cake.

Sculptures made of nails, kinda beautiful.

How beautiful is this falling garden?

The cutest love story graphic I've ever seen!

FOR THE LOVE OF DOUGHNUTS!!

Lots of love!

I LOVE YOU NPR

No really, I do.

Because they do great series like this podcast called Tiny Desk Concerts.

I should start a musical podcast with him and her.

Here is The Stars

My favorite song is the last one - Your Ex-Lover is Dead.

When discussing The Stars, Steven Thompson wrote "but their music is universal: a girl and a boy who can't communicate the way they need to, even when they're singing articulately in each other's faces."

True.

Beautiful.

What happens at 25?

Via Historic-UK.com

I recently got asked "What happens at 25?"  Then I was given the answer...

- Alexander the great conquered Persia at 25
- Queen Elizabeth I took the throne at 25
- General Patton led armies
- Cleopatra conquered Ceaser at 25, In more way than one (his words not mine)

After hearing this, I had two thoughts:
1. I'm pathetic.
2. This is going to be a GREAT year.

Just an honest conversation between friends

Her: but there is a man
boy
man-boy

Me: yes, tell me about said man-boy

Her: First Last

Me: is that so i can fb him?

Her: well yes
but if you cant see i will send you some honest pictures

Me: he looks like a man.  why man-boy?

Her: well he looks like a man
but we cant be sure.

And just when I think it can't get any better,

Her: I cant handle another boy in men's good looking g star clothing

Oh how I love her for her honesty!

Music Monday: The xx

Islands by The xx

I'm kinda obsessed with this song. I love their sound, and apparently I'm not the only advertiser. They have been featured on an ATT commercial as well as a slew of TV shows and movies. They have quite the repertoire of covers and mashups that are simply delightful. If you like this, check out Crystalized and their cover of You've Got the Love.
Enjoy

P.S. I love the repetition in the video. The fact that the dancers did it the same every time...Amazing!

Till we have faces

I have an obsession with C.S. Lewis.  I think he is pretty great.  So when I found this book in my favorite new/used store I had to buy it.  Lewis was inspired by the great love story of Psyche and Cupid, however don't expect anything close to Metamorphoses.

I was expecting a love story one that followed the main characters instead the story was told from Psyche's older sister, Orula's, point of view.  She convinces Psyche to betray Cupid and Psyche is ultimately banished and wanders aimlessly until she is given 3 tasks to make it back to Cupid.  It follows Orula's life as she deals with the guilt and despair she feels for Psyche. While it rambles at times, I did enjoy it.  Like many Lewis novels, it's theological application is abounding, including the following topics:

- Theology vs. Philosophy
- Exile from the Garden of Eden
- Idol Worship
- The "natural man"
- Afterlife
- Atonement

Of course there are little jems.  My favorite quote is:

"Are the gods not just?"
"Oh no, child. What would become of us if they were?"

Happy Friday

This weekend I have a friends going away party, and am going to the Roller Derby for this one's birthday.  Oh yeah, like "Whip It" style (you know that move with Ellen Page and Drew Barrymore).  Can't wait.  I might even redbox the movie in anticipation.  Apparently the AZ Derby Dames are taking on the LA Derby Dolls. I'm confident a post will follow.

PS. The Derby Dames slogan is "Live, Fast, Die, Pretty" (I'd say "apparently no one taught them about coma usage" but I don't want them to beat me up.) I kinda love it!

Anywho, here are my favorites from the week:
- Butter Toast gave me love TWICE in a week!! Here & Here
- #4 is my fave on this list of how to be healthier
- What a cute umbrella
- Remember how I wanted to learn to frost this cake?  Done
- I find these doll drawer pulls creepy and hilarious
- These chandeliers would be a dusting nightmare, but gorge right?
- Never use coin holders, now rethinking
- My friend Kylie is crazy talented, I dig her cute print.  She should totally open up an etsy, don't you think?
- More indulgence of my Royal obsession via nail polish

Have a great weekend!

Uncrustables

Umm....have you tried Smucker's Uncrustables?  Initially I was skeptical.  However, they are basically amazing.  They go in your freezer and once defrosted are a tasty PB&J! Delicious...no really!  Huge fan.

12 Bearded Fellows in Frisco Bay

Remember how I went to San Francisco this weekend?

Highlights include Sausilito, Grace Cathedral, Fisherman's Wharf, Ghirardelli Square, Alamo Park (Full House House), Lombard St (Crooked St.), Trolley Cars, Alcatraz, China Town and Golden Gate Bridge.

Oh San Francisco, how I adore you.

Till next time...

PS. The darling in all my photos is my dear friend Katie.

PPS. The title comes from our weekend game of finding attractive bearded men around the city.  The first was on our flight.  If you are 6"5' with a beard and happened to fly PHX to SFO via Southwest on Friday February 11th at 8:40, call me.

Hey, Freckles

My friend recently posted this:

I'm the type of girl who always goes for the Sawyer.

Maybe it's because they say things like "Hey, Freckles".

You know what I mean?

Probably not.

Below is my favorite commercial of all time - that's a big deal for a girl who rarely has favorites! Just wait for the frog! Oh the frog! It's going to be a great weekend.

And it happened to be filmed in San Francisco. Perfect!

Galentine's Day

Some girlfriends and I went out for an early Valentines day celebration.  It consisted of the Phoenix Art Museum, The District and 8 lovely ladies. Here were our rules:

1. Wear pink or red
2. Ruffles and Sparkles please
3. The higher the heels the better
4. Spill your guts about boys

PS. My cute dress came from Butter Toast.
PPS. Boy talk stays with Galentine's Day

BHLDN

WARNING: My blog is about to be really girly.  But it is Valentine's Day.

Anyone who knows me understands my obsession with Anthropologie. Well, they just released the first pics from their new wedding boutique called BHLDN (pronounced Beholden). Oh how the obsession grows.

Behold the Divinity of BHLDN.
